6 Beauty Trends That Will Be Big in 2024, According to Makeup Artists
New Year, new me? More like a New Year, new makeup. This year, some of the hottest makeup trends include ethereal ballet and mermaid makeup aesthetics, a revival of indie style and '90s-inspired smudged eyeliner and monochrome, food-inspired makeup that looks like latte makeup. While you should expect some of this to carry over into the New Year, 2024 will make a strong case for new face makeup.
Here are makeup artists Tisha Thompson, Nikki Drost and Jamie Greenberg's most anticipated makeup trends for 2024.
Skincare-Infused makeup
"I predict that by 2024, people will be looking for makeup that does double - that is, more skin tone, blush, lip products, and so on, with more skin care ingredients," says celebrity makeup artist and JamieMakeup founder Greenberg.
DeRoest, a celebrity makeup artist and founder of ciele, added: 'Skin health will remain a top priority going into 2024. "I like to achieve this with a watery complexion and an anti-acne formula."
Fresh-Faced Complexions
Skincare themed makeup, is light, fresh makeup. "I think we're going to see more makeup users move away from full-coverage foundation in favor of lightweight, moisturizing formulas," says Thompson, a professional makeup artist and founder of LYS Beauty.
Glowy Cheeks
The good news: highlighters are back - but not as over-the-top and outrageous as they were in the 2010s. "In 2024, we'll see more glowing cheeks from people using liquid blush and highlighter products," Thompson said. She advises against using powdered highlighters.
Monochrome Makeup
You guessed it, the popular 2023 latte and strawberry girl look isn't going away. "Through 2024, monochrome cosmetics will continue to dominate beauty trends," Drost said. "Harmonize the tones of your lips and cheeks to create a cohesive and shiny look that is perfect for day and night."
Colorful Editorial Looks
"I think interesting, dynamic and creative editorial looks will be even more popular in 2024," Greenberg said. 'Bold and colourful eyeliner, lips and multi-coloured blush will be back in fashion next year.' To fill in the paint, Greenberg recommends recreating these types of looks with colored eyeliner. In 2024, we'll see chrome and heavy shimmers paired with these colorful, editorially-inspired looks.
Natural Lashes
"As makeup becomes more natural, I think we're going to see a shift in eyelash extensions," Thompson said. "I predict that people will move away from false lashes to brown and black mascara in order to make them look more natural.
