How to Apply Foundation with a Brush

Foundation brushes offer plenty of perks, with the biggest one being that they’re practically goofproof. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t useful method applications when opting for a foundation brush.

You’ll want to start by selecting the right brush for the foundation you’re using. We love the IT Cosmetics Dual-Ended Foundation Brush for liquid and cream formulas—the smaller, tapered end is perfect for applying product, while the fuller brush end is great for seamless blending and buffing.

Once you’ve chosen your brush, prep your skin as usual (don’t forget a solid makeup primer!), then pick up a small amount of product with your brush. If you’re using a liquid or cream foundation, it can be helpful to apply a few pumps to the back of your hand and pick up the foundation from there—this can help ensure the bristles are evenly coated. Then, begin swiping the formula onto your skin, starting at the center of your face. Slowly blend the pigment outward, using soft, circular motions, until you’ve built up your coverage to your liking. Avoid putting too much pressure on the brush, as doing so can damage the bristles. As you blend, remember to buff your foundation up to your hairline and beneath your jaw for a seamless finish.
